The IES Mar\u00eda de Molina (Madrid) and the Colegio La Anunciata (Zaragoza) also received special mentions from the panel. The awards were handed out in Madrid today, as part of the I Efigy Technology Congress held by the Naturgy Foundation. The \u2018Most Feasible\u2019 plan was awarded for the \u2018Study of the consumption and saving of resources and energy\u2019 from the IES Luis Bu\u00f1uel in Zaragoza. The IES Reyes Cat\u00f3licos in Zaragoza was recognised as the \u2018Most Engaged Educational Centre\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Act and reduce your footprint\u2019 project from the IES Mar\u00eda de Molina (Madrid) and the \u2018Energy that moves us\u2019 project from the Colegio La Anunciata (Zaragoza) received special mentions from the panel.<\/p>\n<p>After the final 15 projects were defended by the students this morning, the panel of experts selected the winners for each of these four categories. The panel is composed of the managing director of FECYT, <strong>Paloma Domingo<\/strong>, the head of the Environment and Sustainability at Naturgy, <strong>Nieves Cifuentes<\/strong>, and the coordinator of the STEMadrid Plan from the Department of Education and Research in the Regional Government of Madrid, <strong>Silvia P\u00e9rez-Cuadrado<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mar\u00eda Eugenia Coronado<\/strong>, <strong>Managing Director of the Naturgy Foundation<\/strong>, urged the students \u201cto efficiently and responsibly consume energy and to be passionate about everything related to energy, technology and the environment because many future professions will be within this key sector, which influences the lives of people and our planet.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Rafael van Grieken<\/strong>, the Councillor of Education and Research for the Regional Government of Madrid, highlighted the success of the STEMadrid Plan, which clearly \u201ccorresponds with this initiative from the Naturgy Foundation to promote the science professions. Technology will affect all professions in the future.\u201d With regard to Efigy, the councillor in the Regional Government of Madrid noted the teaching of energy efficiency, raising awareness for preserving the planet and the communication of the projects created by the secondary school students.<\/p>\n<p>The Naturgy Foundation\u2019s Efigy project is supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). In particular, the Managing Director, <strong>Paloma Domingo<\/strong>, placed value on initiatives that promote science and technology professions. FECYT is interested in the project because it is focused on \u201cencouraging technology professions from a young age and includes the schools and the teachers, which is in line with one of the FECYT&#8217;s objectives,\u201d said Domingo. She continued: \u201cIt is essential to work with the educational community from a non-formal education perspective to support the work of the school and the training of teachers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coronado, van Grieken and Domingo were responsible for handing out the awards to the winners, alongside <strong>Eva Buch<\/strong>, the Director of Education, Dissemination and Heritage at the Naturgy Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The event was closed by <strong>Luis de Quevedo<\/strong>, director and presenter of educational science television programmes, who gave an inspirational speech to help the students at the event better understand and value a focus on the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).<\/p>\n<p><strong>First edition of the Naturgy Foundation&#8217;s national Technology Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In January, the Naturgy Foundation launched this educational initiative aimed at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-63903 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Efigy Technology Competition\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2-210x140.jpg 210w, https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2-220x148.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2-450x300.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2-790x530.jpg 790w, https:\/\/www.fundacionnaturgy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/certamen-efigy2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>14 to 16-year-old students across Spain.<\/p>\n<p>During this edition, the students were tasked with searching for real solutions to contribute to improving the planet, based on the following themes: science and technology relating to energy, energy efficiency, energy mix and sources of energy, sustainability and air quality.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 59 groups of students from 15 Spanish schools were chosen to take part in the first edition of Efigy.
