The future of our society\u2019s digital transformation depends on the application of machine learning technology that, if taken to the business world, will be \u201cthe main factor in generating differentiation and business value.\u201d That was the prediction expressed today by Jos\u00e9 Manuel Garc\u00eda Gavil\u00e1n<\/b>,\u00a0Strategic Customers Director<\/i><\/b>\u00a0of Google Cloud<\/b>, during the Els Juliols summer course at the University of Barcelona, organised once again by the Naturgy Foundation. In the seminar \u2018Digitalisation: practical cases in 7 sectors\u2019, the director of Google Cloud shared his point of view regarding the areas in which Google is advancing, and the results of different initiatives in the medical, transport and energy arenas.<\/p>\n

Garc\u00eda Gavil\u00e1n explained that after 6 years of investment in renewable energy to get to the point where the company ran solely on renewable energy, the application of machine learning has enabled them to reduce their energy consumption by 40% \u201cwhich in a company with a heavy energy consumption for feeding its infrastructure of millions of servers, has meant significant savings on costs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The director of Google called on European companies to invest in these neural network technologies that \u201cteach computers to learn\u201d, so as not so loose the race against countries such as the United States, and above all China.<\/p>\n

Garc\u00eda Gavil\u00e1n illustrated other cases in which Google has worked with these artificial intelligence technologies, such as in medicine, where they have developed an app for detecting diabetic retinopathy, or in mobility, with the impulse of a driverless car.<\/p>\n
