Energy efficiency: trends and perspectives. The experiences of Moldova and Spain

On Wednesday 7 October 2015, this seminar about energy efficiency was held in Chisinau.

The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation was represented by Manuel Beguer i Mayor, the International Project Coordinator, who said: “This is the second activity carried out by the Foundation in the city of Chisinau following the presentation of the book ‘Redes eléctricas inteligentes’ a year ago, which was specially published in Romanian for recipients in Moldova. The matter of energy efficiency was addressed in the seminar because it is a current and acute matter in Spain when taking into account the economic reality and the state of the energy system with regards to the international trends and perspectives in the sector. Spain’s experience and its global vision regarding energy efficiency can act as a model for Moldova in terms of implementing the main technology, regulations and economic and contractual projects to enable the energy service market to develop.”

Jose Luis Gómez Pascual, Country Manager for Gas Natural Fenosa in Moldova, welcomed the presence of specialists from the region, officials from different levels with roles in managing the energy system, representatives from the academic sector and especially the students, who display a legitimate interest in matters that can fundamentally change the views and practices in managing electricity. He expressed his desire that the multi-lateral processing of this matter will contribute to connecting the Moldovan energy system and economy to the requirements of the future, therefore, ensuring progress in global development and competitiveness.

Ramón Silvia Burgos, Head of Innovation and Development of Energy Services at the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation presented the situation regarding implementation and the results of energy efficiency in Spain, the most important technology and their implementation models. His presentation provided the audience with a comprehensive perspective of energy efficiency in Spain, how energy efficiency has been implemented in the last ten years and the main economic models that enable the energy services market to develop.

Mihai Tirsu, Director of the Institute of Energy of Moldova presented the current state of the energy efficiency work being carried out in Moldova, the current situation in the energy sector, problems directly related to energy generation, imports, energy intensity and consumption.

It is important to mention that Gas Natural Fenosa has launched a special project in Moldova focused on energy efficiency. It provides multiple specialised services, which contribute to creating a network of services that have not existed until now for both consumers and other people who request them.

Several journalists writing about economic matters and the energy system activity also participated in the seminar.
