Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum receives Bonaplata Award for the industrial photography exhibition “La Belleza de la Máquina”

The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum received a Bonaplata Award for the exhibition entitled “La belleza de la Máquina. Fotografía industrial de Ramon de Baños (1890-1980)” a previously unseen collection of industrial photographs that enables a rediscovery of this artist – known until now only as a Catalan film industry pioneer.

The Bonaplata Awards are aimed at recognising the interest in recovering and raising awareness about the industrial heritage of Catalonia, as well as improving public opinion on the importance of industrial heritage, a witness to our history.

The panel for the awards, organised by the Catalonia Science and Technology and Industrial Archaeology Museum Association, valued this exhibition and the careful selection of content very highly, which, given its roaming nature, could be seen in various cities and enabled some lesser-known aspects of industrial spaces to be appreciated. For this reason, the exhibition was given the Special Heritage Award in the Spread of Knowledge category.

The exhibition was open to the public at the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum from 30 June 2014 to 15 February 2015, where it was visited by over 11,000 people. It subsequently travelled to Igualada and Palma de Mallorca. The exhibition is the result of extensive research at the Historical Archive of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, which has led to the discovery of this valuable material in explaining the history of science and technology in Spain and which today constitutes an extraordinary graphical record of a world that has since disappeared.
