More than a thousand students from eleven autonomous communities participate in the 5th edition of the Efigy Technology Competition

A total of eight projects from schools all over Spain have been short-listed for the semi-final and are competing in different categories. The winners of which will be announced on 11 May at an in-person gala event in Madrid, which can also be viewed online.

Students taking part in the competition had to find solutions to a challenge that would help improve the planet through energy efficiency. This educational activity aims to motivate and raise awareness and interest in energy, develop young people’s research skills and inspire curiosity and creativity while improving teamwork and communication skills.

More than 1,000 third- and fourth-year secondary school students in eleven autonomous communities participated in the fifth Efigy Technology Competition: Andalusia, Asturias, the Community of Madrid, the Valencian Community, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, La Rioja and Navarre.

The videos of the eight semi-finalist projects can be watched from today, 8 May on the Naturgy Foundation website and on Naturgy’s YouTube channel. The public is invited to vote for their favourite project in the first stage of the competition. The team that receives the most public votes on social networks will go straight through to the final. The other finalists going through to the final will be selected based on a technical and professional evaluation by the competition jury.

Naturgy Foundation general manager María Eugenia Coronado congratulated the semi-finalists of the fifth edition of the competition, saying how delighted she is with the standard of this year’s entries. “This latest edition of the Efigy Technology Competition, which is already a benchmark for schools, is evidence of the Naturgy Foundation’s commitment to educating in energy efficiency from an early age and to stimulate interest in STEM careers, especially among girls and vulnerable groups”. In this regard, Maria Eugenia Coronado explained that “we want to create a collaborative environment for the energy transition, prioritising innovation and the development of energy technologies as levers for achieving a sustainable planet”.

The award ceremony of the competition will take place on 11 May

Young participants from all over Spain will meet in Madrid to present and explain their school projects at the gala prize-giving event of the 5th Efigy Technology Competition on 11 May.

The celebration will be an opportunity for students to display their STEM projects in an initiative designed to inspire school children, bridging the gap with the professional world and giving the children a space for dialogue where they can showcase their talent and feel a part of the great challenges of the future.

The event will also be streamed live (Certamen Tecnológico Efigy) on 11 May from 12.30pm onwards, so that their classmates, family and friends can follow the gala event live.
