Naturgy Foundation collaborates with the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport to prepare a module on sustainability that will be taught in all VT courses starting next year

The power company’s foundation has created the module learning outcomes, and developed the content and educational material, as part of its ‘VT for employability’ programme.

Today, Naturgy Foundation and the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport (MEFPD) presented the content of the “Sustainability applied to the production system” module that will be taught in all VT courses from the 2024-2025 academic year. As a member of the MEFPD Alliance for Vocational Training, the power company’s foundation was appointed to create these new materials and to train teachers throughout Spain who must give this module starting next year.

This new module is a requirement of the Framework Act on the Organisation and Integration of Vocational Training, it poses environmental, social and governance challenges faced by our society, offering the keys for designing a sustainability plan and guaranteeing proper professional performance.

The general secretary for Vocational Training at the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, Clara Sanz, said that “the new VT trains you for the 21st century economy, for a modern, sustainable and green economy. With the Spanish Government’s firm commitment to VT, public-private collaboration, as implemented by Naturgy Foundation, has become vital in this great country project. We have all made it possible to achieve a shared goal, a new training system in line with the needs of young people, of workers, and also of the businesses of our country. All this makes us a benchmark for Vocational Training in Europe, and I believe that we must congratulate ourselves on a job well done”.

María Eugenia Coronado, general director of Naturgy Foundation, stated that the foundation “is very happy to have collaborated with the Ministry in the conceptualisation and development of specialised technical content on sustainability, which will improve employability in all sectors and contribute to a fairer energy transition for all”. “We value the Government’s commitment to incorporating sustainability transversally in all courses very highly, as this integrates skills associated with new professionals in all production sectors”, added Ms Coronado.

Nuria Rodríguez, director of Environment and CSR at Naturgy, who actively collaborated in creating the materials, explained that “Naturgy’s commitment to sustainability as a strategic axis highlights the company’s commitment to people and the planet, and it has enabled us to reflect in this content how future professionals must address a challenge that affects all production sectors”.

The educational materials generated will be part of the “Vocational Education and Training in Energy, Vocational Training for Employability”, collection published by Naturgy Foundation, and its adaptation to an e-learning course in conjunction with the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). These resources will be available to all vocational training teaching staff and students to help them apply the content in the classroom.

Teacher training

Teacher training, which also began today, will be given by sector professionals and certified by Naturgy Foundation and the education departments of the Autonomous Regions where the Foundation has agreements in place. This 30-hour course will be taken by Vocational Training teachers in Spain and provides the resources necessary to achieve the expected learning outcomes: develop basic knowledge and skills on the green economy, sustainability and the environmental impact of production processes in the relevant sector.

Naturgy Foundation’s new training initiative was possible thanks to its partnership with the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports and is part of the Alliance for VT.

The Naturgy Foundation has made a firm commitment to promoting the training of young people, unemployed people and professionals who would like to update their skills acquisition in line with the technological transformation of the energy sector. Its Vocational Training for employability programme improves the readiness of the sector’s future professionals, facilitating their entry into the labour market.

At national level, since the Programme of Vocational Training for employability was launched, over 65,500 students have already benefited from training received in the eight Autonomous Regions with which Naturgy Foundation has signed collaboration agreements (Madrid, Galicia, Catalonia, Asturias, Region of Valencia, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha and Extremadura).

The foundation has eight training modules that provide students with state-of-the-art technical knowledge and certification in areas such as sustainable mobility, sustainable rehabilitation and building construction, renewable gasses, digitalisation of electricity networks, power consultation for vulnerable environments, installation and maintenance of solar panels, green and digital gas networks, and sustainability applied to the productive system.

This Naturgy Foundation training opportunity is aligned with the Just Transition Strategy and is recognised and supported by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, the administrations responsible for education and employment in nine autonomous regions, the Public State Employment Service (SEPE), the National Training for Employment Foundation (FUNDAE) and the National Qualifications Institute (INCUAL).
