Naturgy Foundation promotes updates to Dual Vocational Training with content on new more sustainable technologies

In partnership with the Education Department of the Regional Government of Catalonia and with the participation of companies such as SEAT and Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona (TMB), the power company’s foundation is supporting teacher training on vehicular natural gas (VNG) for two training courses.

The Deputy Director-General for Programmes, Training and Innovation at the Education Department, José Antonio Andrés, and the General Manager of the Naturgy Foundation, Martí Solà, met with representatives from the Vocational Training (VT) centres and the companies participating in a project to update content on new technologies and more sustainable fuels in Dual Vocational Training.

This joint initiative being promoted by the Naturgy Foundation has enabled a total of 113 students from Instituto La Guineueta and Instituto Mare de Déu de la Mercè in Barcelona to receive training on vehicular natural gas (VNG) in this 2018-2019 academic year. This modern and efficient technology is making a highly significant contribution to improving air quality in urban environments.

Under this partnership, the foundation has trained 25 teachers at nine centres offering the Advanced Career and Technical Education Course in the Automotive Industry and the Intermediate Career and Technical Education Course in Electromechanics for Automotive Vehicles.

“Besides introducing education about a sustainable technology like VNG, this joint action will provide the sector with qualified professionals who have been very difficult to find in the labour market until now,” said Martí Solà.

In turn, José Antonio Andrés said that agreements like this one ensure that Vocational Training in Catalonia is in a position to offer students modern, high-tech education to train students in developing the professional skills that companies need in an ever-changing context and become more competitive every day.
