The Blue Flag of Ecology is an environment education programme that promotes improvements in education quality and the development of projects to achieve sustainable development and harmony with the environment. This programme is the most widely used by schools in Spain and provides the best understanding that a school can obtain with regards to the environment. It explores matters including water management, risk management, environmental education projects, the state of the health services, the comprehensive waste and energy plan, and the energy saving and physical infrastructure plan.

The direct recipients of this programme are children between 6 and 12 years old from the Yama and Javillos educational centres, two schools within the direct impact zone of the “Torito Hydroelectric Project”.
