The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation and Vila-real City Council present the exhibition entitled ‘Gas Museum. Energy’

The exhibition will remain open to the public at the Casa de los Mundina in the city until 31 December.

This exhibition shows the evolution of the gas and electricity industries, and reflects on the future of energy and the tools available for sustainable energy production.

Earlier today, the Councillor for Regional Affairs of Vila-real City Council, Emilio M. Obiol, the Director of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum, Eva Buch, and the Wholesale Supply East Zone Director of Gas Natural Fenosa, Francisco José García Vizcaíno, officially opened the travelling exhibition entitled Gas Museum. Energy, at the Casa de los Mundina in Vila-real.

Gas Museum: Energy, which can be enjoyed until 31 December, shows the evolution of the gas and electricity industries through the social changes brought about by the application of new technologies and reflects on the future of energy and the tools available for sustainable energy production. Entry to the exhibition is free and educational activities will also be offered to school groups upon request.

Energy as a driving force for social change

The exhibition reveals the major role that energy has played in social progress. The arrival of gas lighting in our cities increased safety, enabled factory working days to be extended and offered an endless list of cultural and nocturnal entertainment opportunities, among other things. Furthermore, gas began to be used in homes through modern domestic apparatus – referred to as gas appliances – that provided increased comfort for the well-off.

The Director of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation Gas Museum, Eva Buch, said that “the exhibition also reflects on the future of energy and the tools available to ensure sustainable energy production.” By presenting the different energy alternatives that are available, the exhibition gives visitors the keys to understanding the advantage and drawbacks of all sources of energy to emphasise that there are no magic formulas for solving our energy needs in the future.

“The exhibition, which will be visited by schools in the city and by anyone else interested in doing so, offers a broad and detailed outlook on one of the keys to our future – energy sustainability. Vila-real City Council has been working in this field for the last ten years through such measures as a 10% reserve in municipal supply from renewable resources and awareness initiatives like this exhibition,” said the Councillor for Regional Affairs. Emilio Obiol stressed that both actions form part of the power supply to the municipal installations service contract that was awarded last year to Gas Natural Fenosa.

The coming decades will be marked by security of supply, economic costs and their impact on the environment, as well as mankind's capacity for technical and social innovation. Encouraging responsible energy consumption with minimal environmental impact through savings and efficiency will be among the crucial issues of our future agenda.
