The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation in Pamplona analyses the energy implications in digitising industries

Several experts attending a seminary organised today in collaboration with the Vice President for Economic Development at the Regional Government of Navarre and the Navarre Association of Industrial Engineers raised the issue of the changes that are going to be considered in the way industrial companies managed their energy and environment.

Seminario Nueva Industria 4.0 Pamplona

The Vice President for Economic Development at the regional government of Navarre, Manu Ayerdi, the General Manager of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, Martí Solà, and the Chair of the Navarre Association of Industrial Engineers, Miguel Iriberri, officially opened the seminar held today in Pamplona, entitled New Industry 4.0: energy and environmental aspects, an event that brought together over 120 professionals.

Industry 4.0 is the term being used for the transformation process that the manufacturing industry has been seeing in the most advanced countries. A process that incorporates, among other things, use of the “Internet of Things”, 3D printing, extensive analysis of large databases, artificial intelligence, collaborative robotics and virtual reality. The meeting saw various experts explaining the main changes that are going to be considered in energy and environmental management in industrial companies and analysed the transformation of final products into smart products.

So, the Director of Communications at the Sicnova Group, Mikel Arbeloa, explained the concept of Industry 4.0 and described the main technologies available. He highlighted the fact that it was not just about a new stage in the Industrial Revolution but a strategic challenge, above all, towards a digital transformation.

The Director for Technological Innovation at GAS NATURAL FENOSA, Mónica Puente, pointed out that digitisation and technological innovation are an essential tool for achieving the goals set out under the company's Strategic Plan for 2016-2020, which will be making increasing headway towards a smart energy approach throughout the energy value chain.

For his part, the General Manager of the ESDI Foundation, Antoni Garrell, remarked that Manufacture 4.0 is not just about making factories smart or improving productivity by replacing humans with robots but also about designing and manufacturing smart products, with connectivity and intelligence, to achieve greater social progress.

The VW270 Project Manager at Volkswagen Navarra, José Arreche, presented his vision and approach to Industry 4.0’s strategy, using specific examples and practical applications of the various technologies that this strategy entailed. These notably included the use of enhanced reality for diagnosing electric-cabinet breakdowns in complex installations.

Siemens’s Northern Regional Area Director, Daniel Sainz, explained how Industry 4.0 has been shaping the 4th Industrial Revolution and stands out for its integration of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in industrial processes, giving rise to the full automation and digitisation of the manufacturing sector, where the economic driving force is the increasingly large volume of data that have to be managed through smart data.

Last but not least, the Director of Gamesa Innovation & Technology, Gorka Villa, presented the experience acquired by the company in integrating the entire value chain into its products: from design and manufacture to maintenance, not to mention logistics and the building of parks, and highlighted the importance of digitisation as a crucial process in sustainable growth.

The event was officially concluded by the Director-General of Economic Policy, Enterprise and Work at the regional government of Navarre, Izaskun Goñi, and the Managing Director of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, Martí Solà.
