The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, leader in transparency in 2014 for the fourth consecutive year

The ‘Construir Confianza 2014’ study created by the Fundación Compromiso y Transparencia (Commitment and Transparency Foundation), which is now in its sixth edition, listed the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, alongside the Atresmedia, Barceló family and Luca de Tena foundations, as the most transparent in 2014.

This voluntary transparency report assesses aspects such as online publication of contact information, mission statement, description of programmes and activities, information about
management, staff and trustees, foundation governance, economic information and performance measurement of the 50 main business and 26 family foundations in Spain.

The analysis of business sectors that the corporate foundations work in shows that Energy followed by Insurance are the sectors with the most transparent foundations. The Agro-food, Automotive, Construction, Distribution, Pharmaceutical, Financial, Infrastructures, Mining, Services, Tobacco and Telecommunications sectors are those that include the most Translucent and Opaque catalogued foundations (those that comply with 12 and 8 of the 17 transparency indicators respectively).

For the first time, the Construir Confianza 2014 report provides a series of recommendations for promoting good governance practices in the foundations: A well-formulated mission, which the trustees must periodically check is correct and relevant; independent trustees who can ensure the integrity and continuity of the organisation; and the governing bodies of the foundations must pay more attention to the impact of the activities of the organisation.
