The new consumer is more technological and more aware of their health and the environment

Zaragoza hosted the Naturgy Foundation training seminar where various experts analysed the future perspectives for energy consumption.

Spokespersons from the Iberian Electricity Market Operator (OMIE), the Aragon Government, Accenture Strategy, the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), Schneider Electric Energy and Sustainability Services, the Carlos lll Institute of Health (ISClll) and ECODES all participated in this event.

The event was officially opened by the Aragon Minister for Economy, Industry and Employment, Marta Gascón, and the Managing Director of the Naturgy Foundation, Martí Solà. They both thanked the spokespersons and participants for their attendance and outlined the increasingly active role played by private consumers in the energy sector. Gascón highlighted the fact that Aragon has succeeded in establishing itself as a model for renewables thanks to its own resources and the regulatory changes that “have enabled us to solve the legal problems, offer promoters security and give administrative preference to wind-power and photovoltaic projects”. Solà stressed that “promoting energy efficiency, sustainable development and technological innovation are the watchwords of the Naturgy Foundation and feature very prominently in the demands of today’s energy users.” The task of closing the seminar fell to the Aragon Government’s Director-General of Energy and Mines, Alfonso Gómez.

Álvaro Polo, a partner at Accenture Strategy, was the first speaker and he outlined how energy consumption is developing in Spain and the world, as well as its impact on utilities. In his view, electricity supply and demand are both increasing and diversifying and new technologies occupy a key position in these new patterns. “Consumers are already seeing the impacts of this change, such as the convergence of cross-cutting industries, Distributed Generation-Prosumer or the expectations and requirements of new products and services,” said Accenture Strategy’s spokesperson.
