Naturgy Foundation accompanies Valencian social entities in their recovery with sustainable energy solutions
The Foundation is launching a solar photovoltaic installation at the 9 d’Octubre Occupational Centre in Catarroja, as part of its ‘Joining Forces for Valencia’ programme.
Naturgy Foundation continues to advance in its commitment to the recovery of areas affected by flooding in the Region of Valencia by commissioning a solar photovoltaic installation at the 9 d’Octubre Occupational Centre, located in Catarroja and owned by the Mancomunitat de l’Horta Sud. This action is part of the ‘Joining Forces for Valencia’ programme, the comprehensive plan promoted by the energy company Foundation to contribute to rebuilding the territory from a social, energy and future perspective.
The project for solar installations in care centres for people in vulnerable situations aims to generate significant energy savings for social entities, allowing them to allocate more resources to their main activity of caring for and accompanying the people who need it most. It also brings renewable energies closer to social organisations and contributes to making the energy transition an inclusive process, reaching all areas of society.
The incorporation of this line of action within the ‘Joining Forces for Valencia’ programme reinforces the Naturgy Foundation vision that reconstruction after the flooding must go beyond recovering the previous situation. The aim is that territories and entities emerge stronger after this process, with more efficient, sustainable infrastructures that are prepared for the challenges of the energy transition.
An installation with social and energy impact
The 9 d’Octubre Occupational Centre is a care centre for adults with intellectual functional diversity that attends 75 users in the Horta Sud region. Inaugurated in 1986, the centre is managed by the Patronato Reina Sofía, a non-profit organisation that works to improve the quality of life of the people it cares for, promoting their autonomy, personal development, and social and occupational integration.
Support from Naturgy Foundation has enabled the design, construction, legalisation and commissioning of a photovoltaic power generation installation for self-consumption, with the possibility of shared self-consumption, as well as its maintenance during the first year of operation. The installation has 20 solar panels of 575 watts each, giving a total installed capacity of 11.5 kWp.
Thanks to this action, the centre will be able to cover nearly 47% of its energy consumption with renewable energy generated in its own facilities, reducing its dependence on the electricity grid and moving towards a more efficient and sustainable management model, helping to avoid 2t of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere per year.
Joining Forces for Valencia: rebuilding for the future
Naturgy Foundation created its ‘Joining Forces for Valencia’ programme to support the recovery of the areas affected by severe flooding, combining immediate responses with long-term actions. The plan includes nearly a thousand initiatives and is divided into four main areas of action: support for people, promoting education, promoting employment promotion and care for the environment, with an estimated impact on more than 40,000 people.
Solar installations at social and educational centres, such as the one at the 9 d’Octubre Occupational Centre, are included in this strategy as a key tool to improve the energy efficiency of entities, reduce costs, generate savings and contribute to the construction of a more resilient and sustainable society, aligned with the objectives of a just energy transition.
With initiatives like this, Naturgy Foundation reaffirms its commitment to Valencia and to a reconstruction that not only repairs the damage caused by the flooding, but also promotes a model of development that is more inclusive, supportive and prepared for the future.
