Naturgy Foundation and the Orden Hospitalaria de San Juan de Dios will work together to combat energy poverty

Beneficiaries of this social institution will have access to training in new energy technologies to improve their employability and will benefit from the energy renovations that the foundation offers in the homes of vulnerable families

Naturgy Foundation and the Orden Hospitalaria de San Juan de Dios of Spain (Hospitaller Order of the Brothers of Saint John of God – SJD Spain) will work together on social matters and training to benefit the different groups aided by the social institution in Spain. This partnership will reinforce the energy company foundation’s fight against poverty with different actions in favour of the most vulnerable.

The foundation will offer its free Vocational Training for employability courses to help SJD Spain beneficiaries to join the job market in areas related with the energy transition. Courses will be certified by the Naturgy Foundation and linked to new energy technologies as well as self-supply, renewable gases or the digitalisation of electricity networks.

The foundation will also offer its mentoring and professional guidance programme, and encourage STEM skills especially among young girls.
Furthermore, Naturgy Foundation will provide talks on energy efficiency and saving on bills through its Energy School so that SJD Spain beneficiaries and volunteers can improve their consumption habits and reduce the cost of their energy bill.

The agreement also envisages vulnerable families aided by SJD Spain having access to the Energy Rehabilitation Solidarity Fund with which the foundation has carried out improvement actions in more than 3,600 homes throughout Spain. The institutions will also collaborate so that vulnerable families have access to solar self-supply to reduce their energy costs.

María Eugenia Coronado, Managing Director of the Naturgy Foundation, highlighted the importance of this agreement, which reinforces two of the main lines of action of the institution she leads. “Collaboration with the Orden Hospitalaria de San Juan de Dios enables us to help vulnerable families by responding to two of the major challenges they face each day: access to the labour market and energy savings and efficiency, to reduce their energy bill without losing comfort in their homes”, she explained.
Meanwhile, General Manager of SJD Spain Centres, Juan José Afonso, stated that, “the people we attend, often with scarce resources, have seen their situation worsen due to high energy costs and this agreement will allow us to help precisely this group with both direct grants to reduce energy costs and renovate their homes, and training to make more efficient use of resources”. “On the other hand, collaboration with the Naturgy Foundation will enable us to promote professional training courses offered through our Foundations and Special Employment Centres to facilitate the professional integration of the people we aid, and who can find a clear road for employability and dignity through the energy transition”, added Mr Afonso.
