The storage of electricity

One of the main challenges of the energy sector around the world is the storage of electricity. We still do not know how to store electricity efficiently and cheaply. This fact forces us to consume electricity immediately after generation and conditions the entire energy system. This book reports the state of the different electricity storage technologies in the world from the reversible hydraulic reservoirs, as well as the technologies associated with batteries, the use of natural gas as a store (“power to gas”) and the molten salts. Finally, the main barriers and obstacles, both technological and economic, that must be overcome to achieve a truly viable storage of electricity are identified.
