The dean of the Association of Architects of Catalonia called for all the players involved to work together, at a seminar during which representatives of Barcelona City Council and the Catalan government pledged to take advantage of renewable energy in housing rehabilitation.
The full prize amount must be spent on projects that improve quality of life conditions for the most disadvantaged groups in energy-related issues.
The panel will be chaired by Alberto Núñez, S.J., Director of the Pastoral Service and professor at Universidad Pontificia Comillas, and will be made up of prestigious representatives from various fields.
During the event, a study by the Chair of Energy Sustainability at Barcelona Institute of Economics-University of Barcelona was presented, which analyses energy poverty from the perspective of available income for vulnerable groups and concludes that one out of five Spanish households in this situation has one or more members who are unemployed.
Over 100 kilos of waste were also collected during the event, organised in partnership with the Fragas do Mandeo Foundation. The Naturgy Foundation’s Environmental Volunteering Programme has just celebrated its fifth anniversary; five years during which 35 m3 of waste have been cleared from natural spaces throughout Spain and more than 3,600 plant specimens have been planted.
Today in Madrid, the Energy commissioner stated that it is necessary “to promote flexibility in the wholesale market and provide clear pricing signals to encourage continuous penetration of renewable energy and to guarantee investments.”
The researcher at the Centre for Monetary and Financial Studies, Jorge Padilla, spoke about incorporating renewable energy into the wholesale electricity market and supported the need to design suitable capacity remuneration mechanisms.
The Efigy Education initiative, which will run throughout the entire school year, also aims to promote technological professions among students. The Naturgy Foundation will introduce the youngest generations to the key aspects of the energy transition and new technology such as renewable gas and its role in the circular economy.
