Around 17% of Spain’s total potential biogas production is concentrated in Castile and León

During a seminar in Valladolid organised by the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation and the Regional Government of Castile and León, different experts analysed the region's advances in environmental quality over the last 15 years.

The seminar demonstrated the advantages of biogas as a fuel and its potential in Spain, which has the capacity to produce the equivalent of 7% of its current natural gas consumption.

With the seminar Fifteen years of environmental quality in Castile and León the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation commemorates World Environment Day and the 15th anniversary of the creation of its seminars on energy and the environment.

Biogas use could cover the annual energy consumption of Barcelona homes

During a seminar, held today in Barcelona by the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation in collaboration with the Regional Government of Catalonia, various experts underlined that the use of this energy source could reduce the country's energy dependence and minimise environmental impact.

According to a report by IDAE, Spain is the seventh largest biogas producer in Europe and has a potential available energy of 1.695 ktoe per year, equivalent to the annual thermal and electricity consumption of Barcelona homes.

Spain currently has 15 biogas plants that use municipal solid waste as feedstock, which along with slurry treatment plants, could generate enough energy to move a fleet of 750,000 vehicles.

Biogas from the Góngora landfill (Navarre) will generate enough energy to supply more than 6,000 families for a year

During a seminar organised today in Pamplona by the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation in collaboration with the Government of Navarre, several experts analysed the challenges and opportunities of using biogas in Spain.

The speakers emphasised that the combined use of biomethane and natural gas will allow the country to decrease its energy dependence and will help it achieve the European Union's environmental targets.

GAS NATURAL FENOSA, Hera and Sodena are studying possible uses of biogas from the Góngora landfill (Navarre) and estimate that the biogas generated contains 65 GWh of energy per year, equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 6,000 families or 7,000 gas vehicles.
